This month on Rabid In The Kennel: Low Water!

Low Water
18 August 2011

Check out the band’s live in the studio session from Brooklyn’s fabulous Kennel Studio, as well as a pleasant, humorous, good 25-minute interview with me, Big Takeover editor Jack Rabid. You won’t regret it!

Who are Low Water?

“Brooklyn-based Low Water has been recognized by American Songwriter Magazine as a ‘Writer of the Week’ and featured on NPR’s ‘All Songs Considered’, FUSE On Demand, and two seasons of PBS’s Roadtrip Nation. Indierockcafe.com has called them ‘one of the best unsigned bands in pop-rock at the moment’, and BLURT Magazine called their latest release, The Taste You Know And Enjoy, ‘vulnerable in all the right places’, giving the record an 8 out of 10. They have performed live on ‘The Alternate Side’ at WFUV’s studios and were in heavy rotation at that venerable New York City station as well as several other markets.” (for a longer bio, go here).

And here’s our own review from the current Big Takeover issue 68, written by our own Jeff Elbel to give you an idea of what you will be in for:

Low Water
The Taste You Know and Enjoy!
(Yinz Playin’ Music?)

You may already know and enjoy the taste, but sampling Low Water’s version of the cuisine proves worthwhile. The Brooklyn quartet lovingly heap exemplary style, strong collective chops, and savvy wordplay into a zesty confection. “My Life in Advertising” has the easygoing, rootsy pop glide of Wilco’s “Jesus, Etc.,” while playing out a scene of existential angst from someone who sought greener grass but didn’t find it. The summery, jangling “He’s Taking Names” warns of a shifty operator who’s got the goods on all of our misdeeds, and isn’t afraid to use them against us. John Leitera’s plainspoken voice may itself be unremarkable, but it imbues his clever words with heartfelt honesty. Taste is filled with careful production, including lush strings and subtle spices that reward repeated visits to the table. (lowwatermusic.com) — JEFF ELBEL
