Post Death Soundtrack - The Unlearning Curve (Self-Released)

5 May 2016

Post Death Soundtrack is an industrial trio from various parts of Canada. After a three year hiatus, the band is back with their newest full-length, The Unlearning Curve, a moody, Skinny Puppy -esque take on druggy psychedelica. The album is a follow up to their previous record, 2008’s Music As Weaponry, and it finds the band slightly mellower if not just as menacing.

Self-described as “genre-twisting, eclectic narrative about dropping concepts, healing and venturing into the unknown,” the album is as gleefully ungainly as it sounds; a massive behemoth that stretches the format to its limit much in the same way as The Cure’s Disintegration. It’s the sound of a band that has had a lot to say in the years since their hiatus. Songs like “You Can’t Go Back” and “Dance With The Devil” are sprawling in their ambition and reach, unfolding gradually without any rush to arrive at their destination.

Other tracks like “Little Alice” hearken back to their earlier aggressive work, while adding a more atmospheric quality that is present throughout album’s overall milieu. The record closes with the fantastic, dare one say, synthpop of “Transform In White Light_. A droning, casual summation, the song could have easily been found on one of Depeche Mode’s late-80’s releases. The Unlearning Curve will be available May 27th for free download, and a limited vinyl release.
