The Northeast Corridor Concert Trail

23 November 2005

I’m very excited to be writing for the online version of The Big Takeover since I believe that we should have an online presence that rivals sites that post new items daily, like Pitchfork. I’ve been reading the Big Takeover since 2002, when I stumbled upon it by chance at a CHAMELEONS show at Maxwell’s. In 2003, I started writing live reviews for the print edition of the magazine. I’ve done lots of live show reviews since then and in this new online version, I plan to continue reviewing shows, but I will also be writing about other topics that don’t necessarily involve music, such as film, TV, and even sports.

While the print edition is an incredible document of alternative music and real rock and roll of all sorts, those of you who don’t wanna wait six months for the next issue can get your fix here. I promise that you’ll get your fix often, as I attend a lot of shows (2-3 per week on average). Most of the shows that I attend are here in New York City, but I’m also in Philadelphia a lot since my girlfriend lives there, so I attend some shows there and occasionally I’ll travel to Washington, DC, where I saw THE FIERY FURNACES a month ago, and Massachussetts, where I caught YO LA TENGO and DINOSAUR JR over the summer.

And yes ELVIS COSTELLO fans, you guessed right; my blog is named after a line from Blood & Chocolate’s “Tokyo Storm Warning.”

Glad to hear that the BTO’s (hopefully not too) hostile takeover of Japanesegodjesusrobot was a success! What did Jack promise you, free use of the company’s lear jet? Your face on every billboard in the city? Unlimited use of BTO office’s penthouse suite? Yeah, he promised me the same things when he lured me to be moderator of BTO’s discussion list seven years ago! I’m still waiting to see some of those perks! (But Jack does buy me a beer every now and again, which is fine too…)
