Bruce Haack - The Electric Lucifer (Omni)

7 July 2007

One of the great outsider creations finally makes it to CD! Near the end of a decade of music-making mostly devoted to crafting commercial jingles and albums of songs for children, BRUCE HAACK channeled his knack for electronics and his newfound love for psychedelic rock into one of the most far-out LPs ever issued by Columbia Records.

Aside from including four other vocalists, The Electric Lucifer was played and created entirely by Haack on synthesizers, most invented and constructed by Haack himself, though bass lines are played on a Moog. It all supports a unique and complex (or convoluted) recasting of and extrapolation from the Biblical tale of Lucifer’s exile from heaven; from that battle Haack derives an anti-war conclusion. The imaginative sounds are woven through rock-influenced song structures any listener can follow and enjoy thanks to plenty of hooks and memorable melodies.

As bonuses, there are an alternate take of “Electric to Me Turn” and a 25-minute 1970 interview with Haack from a Canadian radio station.
