Flutronix - 2.0 (Flutronix)

Flutronix 2.0
5 May 2014

On their second release, Brooklyn’s Flutronix push the boundaries of soul music by incorporating elements of jazz, electronic music, hip-hop and funk into their unique vision.

2.0 rides on the dueling flutes of Nathalie Joachim and Allison Loggins-Hull, whose powerful voices combine to tell emotional stories of everyday life. Underneath, pulsing, insistent, but subtle electronics drive the songs forward, further propelled by the fantastic funk drumming of Joe Blaxx. With the instrumentals “Flock,” “Battle” and “Life Lines,” though, Flutronix turn to something that can best be described as cyber-classical, with their flutes coming to the forefront of intricate electronic compositions. Most surprisingly, they transform The Eurythmics‘ cold “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” into a sexy jazz-infused neo-soul number, showing the versatility of the group when approaching another composition.

By not residing in any one particular genre, Flutronix create a sound entirely their own that refuses to adhere to the limits of labels. Indulge in the sound of true musical exploration.
