In a hybrid of Northern and Southern California dance music production, Motofightr, comprised of San Francisco’s Miles Gabriel and Los Angeles-based Alec Feld (Expensive Looks), delivers an innovative five-song EP that draws heavily from vintage European disco.
From start to finish, the “Pacific Post Highway” EP thumps with the sleazy candor of ’80s italo disco. By drawing from Detroit funk, UK garage and even world music, the duo creates a sound that hearkens back to hot Italian summer nights spent gyrating in dance clubs to the likes of Koto, Dead Or Alive and Laserdance. It’s the soundtrack to driving a convertible on a coast-lined highway, top down, sun shining and not a care in the world.
With five songs, the “Pacific Post Highway” EP offers a nice teaser for what is to come, which, judging by what’s laid here, should be quite a lot of fun. Turn it up and enjoy the summer because it won’t last forever.
