True to form, Nick Oliveri’s debut album under the Uncontrollable moniker boasts squealing guitars, pounding rhythms and driving songs – staples of the musician’s long, vibrant career built on Kyuss, The Dwarves, Queens of the Stone Age and Mondo Generator.
Grab the booze, loose women, custom vans and motorcycles, Leave Me Alone reminds us what rock’n‘roll is really meant to be. Amazingly solid bass and drums hammer out the beats for snarling guitar riffs, all performed exquisitely by Oliveri, whose Ted Nugent-esque screech spits venom and hatred at every turn. Guest guitar gods, including Motörhead’s Phil Campbell, Ween’s Dean Ween and Marc Diamond from The Dwarves handle the solos, while Blag Dahlia, also of The Dwarves, provides vocals on “Come and You’re Gone.” Interestingly, the title track consists of a multi-tracked Oliveri on acoustic guitar a la Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath. Hands down, this is the album for everyone into ’70s rock, punk and metal.
The world has been extremely lacking in total balls-out rock’n‘roll, but, thanks to Nick Oliveri, we know it’s still alive and kicking the crap out of anyone who gets in the way. Turn the volume up to eleven, get drunk and make out because you can.
