Returning to the duo of Timothy and Prydwyn that dominated 1998’s A Silver Thread to Weave the Seasons, Red Lion, PA’s Stone Breath continue their haunting minstrel folk journey of nineteen years.
The first half of Children of Hum sees the bards at their starkest. Through six new tracks comprised solely of acoustic instruments and Timothy’s dark baritone accompanied by Prydwyn’s soft harmonies, heartfelt tales of life, experience and pain unfold with the intimacy of a secret troubadour performance deep in the woods at midnight. While primarily derived from the Anglo tradition, “All This and Alice” nods to the dramatics of Spanish classicism.
Bonus tracks comprised of rare, previously unreleased recordings and compilation tracks from the group’s later period round out the release. Despite not being intended as part of the whole, these songs fit perfectly with the depressive, mysterious vibe evoked by the new material, even when an expanded lineup including female vocalists appears.
Far from the bustling concrete of the city, Stone Breath dwell within secluded forests and forgotten quarries, where the creatures of folklore are known to cavort when the moon is nigh. Rediscover the magic in nature and the medieval sound of folk music through the darkness of Children of Hum.
