London/Bristol-based fuzz-pop quartet, The Fireworks, finally release their explosive debut full-length, proving the anticipation was well worth it.
As loud, distorted and thunderous as Switch Me On gets, it remains completely melodic. The guitar stays Johnny Ramone simple, grinding out super-catchy feedback-laden pop riffs for the reverb-fueled male/female vocals to accentuate. Meanwhile, thick and meaty basslines anchor the low end, propelled by plodding, tribal drumming. It’s like The Primitives decided to be The Jesus and Mary Chain for a day but forgot the day was over.
Infectious hooks, tasteful harmonies and sheer volume make for a stellar launch from a new band creating their own jet stream. Turn The Fireworks up and feel the room shake.
