Dan West, who records under the moniker d’Animal, is releasing a brand new jangle pop tune; a soaring, majestic song about the loss of his precious tortie cat Falipa. Otherwise known as “Fifi the fighter”, Falipa (who West also lovingly refers to as _“Puffini” ), took flight this past June 8th.

“Falipa” is the name of the first song to appear off of his fourth full length studio album, Hedonistic Pillow, which arrives in 2021.

Big Takeover is pleased to host the premiere of the personal and joyful music video tribute to Falipa. Azalia Snail shares her considerable video directing skills to create a moving tableau where West is seen singing his goodbye directly to Falipa.

In a living room setting, a beautiful photo of Falipa is projected onto a screen while West plays his guitar and emotes directly to Falipa’s image in a bittersweet, but super-tuneful ode to his furry companion that had been by his side for a long while.

West recollects, “Falipa was a studio cat, always there beside me as I worked. There are countless musical projects that have her essence in the mix. Her spirit will always be with me no matter where I am or what I am doing.”

Dan West and Falipa

Dan West is a musician, arranger, and composer who spent the end of the 20th Century honing his musical palette in Los Angeles. He began performing professionally in clubs from the age of 12 playing guitar, bass, piano and singing in a scene that became known as ‘The Paisley Underground.’

His music did not go unnoticed – his many vinyl and CD releases were regularly featured on Rodney Bingenheimer’s legendary “Rodney on the ROQ” radio show and continue to get airplay on “Rodney on the Rock” on SiriusXM radio.

West has performed onstage and on record with artists ranging from Sky Saxon of The Seeds and Bryan MacLean of Love to jazz artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Maynard Fergusson, and Paula Kelly. He also performed, recorded, and released albums with his own groups Aguafantastica, Mono For One, Sidewalk Society, and currently, LoveyDove.

He scored the music for the documentary Mr. Movie Poster, about the life of artist Paul Crifo.

West’s albums d’Animal l’Ogic, Does it Suit You?, and Hot Corners were released on New Zealand-based label Powertool Records.
