Song premiere: "Bomb's Away" by MCG

MCG
6 May 2016

Austin, Texas-based indie-pop band MCG was assembled by the group’s lead singer and namesake, Mariclaire Gamble, in January of 2014. With the help of her brother Evan, an LA-based musician and actor, Gamble had just finished recording a full album when she approached guitar players Andrew Bennett and David Tenczar about forming a band. Over the next nine months, the lineup would solidify, adding Jay Cesak on bass and Drew Silverman on drums. The group made their live debut in September of 2014.

In February of 2015, MCG released their debut album, Compatible Creature, to a sold-out audience (300) at The North Door in Austin. With the single “I Love The Time” getting airplay on KGSR and KUTX, the band quickly gained critical and popular support in the Austin area.

That summer, the five-piece band, now stage-tested and tightened, went into The Bubble Studios with Grammy-nominated Chris “Frenchie” Smith (Wild Child, The Dandy Warhols, Ringo Deathstar, The Toadies) to record Outside EP, the band’s latest release.

“Bomb’s Away” is a mid-tempo minor-key stomper that showcases Gamble’s impressive vocal chops; her voice swoops and soars from jazzy coo to pop quaver to rocker rasp with no stitches showing. Hot stuff!
