An up and coming Londoner armed with multiple ’70s and ’80s manufactured synthesizers, Rodney Cromwell is a figure whose music has been known for some time now and all the more so lately due to his connection with Hologram Teen, the new moniker for Morgane Lhote, otherwise known as linchpin keyboardist for French/English seminal ’90s band Stereolab.
Rodney Cromwell (as historically memorable a name as it may be) is actually also not the real name of this artist – he’s really Adam Cresswell. His claim to fame (before the Rod years) lies in the fact that he is founding member of indie-folktronica band Saloon (a fave act of John Peel, having featured four times in his famed Festive 50 & also having recorded three Peel Sessions).
Oh yes, his other claim to fame is as one-half of acclaimed electronic two piece Arthur & Martha. Apparently he likes colloquialisms and metaphors, judging from the name of his new EP, Fax Message Breakup, named for Phil Collins’ infamous split with his second wife.
Fortunate for us, his music has nothing to do with the Genesis frontman. Along with an original track, presenting an extremely catchy lo-fi disco lament, this EP also features four exclusive remixes (by Hologram Teen, The Leaf Library, Chris Frain, and *Dom Cresswell’*s “AUW” remix). Today we present the premiere for the first of these remixes – Hologram Teen’s remix of “Fax Message Breakup”.
It’s glitchy, it’s Motorik, and it’s disco. Hard to imagine them all together you say? One’s imagination might otherwise not be able to envision this, so to cap this sound in a nutshell, it sounds like a potent and tasteful upbeat blend of Giorgio Moroder, Human League, Kraftwerk, and M/A/R/R/S. Imagine that. No… just listen – much simpler and pleasurable.
“Fax Message Breakup” is being released via London label Happy Robots Records and distributed by Cargo Records.

We also present you the title track from this release, which features Alice Hubley (Arthur & Martha, Cosines) on additional synth and Richard Salt (Controllers) on guitar. The melancholia of this track is very timely, an upbeat anthem to despair and defeat with its sign-of-the-times chorus, “I can’t do this anymore, I don’t know what it’s for”. A fitting soundtrack for 2016. The accompanying video, featuring Alisa Karsova, is produced by Dariy Karyakin.
