The Big Takeover has the pleasure of introducing you to the forthcoming single from Dave Wesley, titled “Laranja Swadhisthana 67_5 – EPv1”. There are two tracks here on offer, both of which are rooted in the golden rules of geometry. You will soon find that the good vibes from this music continue to resonate long after it has been turned off.
Wesley’s new single will be released on the label Arctic Dub (Sursumcorda) in digital form only. However, this is exactly the kind of music that connoisseurs everywhere would love to grab on vinyl. Your reaction to Wesley’s work may be similar to a response to hearing David Sylvian with Holger Czukay’s collaboration for the very first time. This is awe-inspiring music, existing somewhere between heaven and earth and cut from the same cloth as Michael Brook’s classic Cobalt Blue.
Given that this single is our first sampling of Wesley’s music, we’re not sure just how broad-ranging his music style is, but it apparently it integrates chill, dub techno, experimental, and ambient genres into its weave. What we can definitely agree upon is the selection of artists who have a similar sound and vibe to Wesley, including Funki Porcini, Brian Eno, Philip Glass, Passion -era Peter Gabriel, and especially Michael Brook. Simply fantastic and highly calming, which is really what more of us could use these days.
If Wesley’s 15 minutes of fame has not already occurred, it will happen soon. However, if it has passed, we can assume it came with the release of his rendition of “Why Are We Here?” for Philip Glass, who published it on his album Glass: Glasscuts via his own label Orange Mountain Music. Wesley was subsequently invited to guest DJ at the NYC release party for that album.
“This EP was born out of the sweltering summer heat of inland Portugal and a recent trip to Lisbon, where African tribal rhythmic influence is strong in the air and in the airwaves. I strive to create music that has multiple utility (i.e. for grooving, dancefloor, background ambiance, active listening, etc),” explains Wesley.
“Many of my releases originate with a “Session” track that becomes the seed for generating additional, often more ambient or experimental, tracks to round out an EP release. In this case, the “Ceremony” version is directly derived from the components of “Session” version and it provides a lighter more positive feel in contrast with the intensity of the “Session”. Balance of mood is an important part of my process when creating an EP/release.”
“Laranja Swadhisthana 67_5 – EPv1” will be officially released on August 18th and is already available for pre-order via Wesley’s Bandcamp
