Released earlier this year on Eastern Spurs Recordings, the LP C.Gibbs Sings Motherwell Johnston chronicles the fictitious Motherwell Johnston: an alias Christian Gibbs of Lucinda Black Bear began using to try new songs live without having any expectations from those who might be familiar with his past work. What began as a quirky experiment soon gave birth to some infectious, powerful songs brought to life by a new band including drummer Tim Kuhl (Goaast), Matt Brandau (Old Ceremony) on bass, and Phil Sterk (Alana Amram) on pedal steel.
“Cordelaine” effortlessly flows from moody folk to gnarly rock, and we dig it mightily. Have a look and listen.
