Video Premiere: "I am but a Child" by Malheur VOL

6 January 2014

We at The Big Takeover are again pleased and proud to support human rights activist Robert Park in his efforts on behalf of the oppressed people of North Korea. You can read more about this remarkable man, and listen to more of his music, here and here.

Malheur VOL’s newest music video is dedicated to North Korean hero and human rights activist Shin Dong-hyuk. Shin lived his first 23 years enslaved in a North Korean prison camp and witnessed unspeakable atrocities before risking his life to escape in 2005. His courageous testimony and unparalleled activism are accredited as being the principal catalyst for the launching of the UN Commission of Inquiry on Human Rights in North Korea, which is currently underway. A critically acclaimed documentary about Shin’s life titled Camp 14: Total Control Zone (2012) has won a slew of international honors including the 2013 Néstor Almendros award from Human Rights Watch.

The video is to Park’s song, “I am but a Child,” one of four demo recordings done, mostly in one take, in collaboration with Chris Newman of Napalm Beach and Mike Lastra at Smegma Studios (Portland, OR) in 2012.

Malheur VOL is at present accepting online auditions for the recording of their first LP, and are receiving submissions for the following instruments: bass, drums, lead guitar, backing vocals/tambourine. If you are a musician and interested in being a part of this important work, visit Robert Park’s web site where you can hear or download 16 demos, access lyrics and Park’s published articles and submit your info to Malheur VOL’s management.
