Eliot Lipp - Skywave (Young Heavy Souls)

Austin based musician Eliot Lipp is prepping to release his new album Skywave on June 23, a melodic and rhythmic collection of sounds that range from the upbeat, surfy “Reflection” to the darker song “Not Quite Awake (Emancipator Remix)”. The song “I Told Ya” melds the mysterious soundtracks of 70’s and 80’s science fiction. Lipp utilizes high-pitched electronic keyboard notes and electronic drums to meld a head bobbing but easy to listen to, relatively uncomplicated beats. The strings in “I Told Ya” add a melancholy and more emotive feeling than the other sounds I listened to.

Skywave’s retro beats and melodic, hypnotic sound clips are a ubiquitous part of the zeitgeist right now, but that makes it no less enjoyable. The strings in “I Told Ya” add a soulful and deeper feeling, and the Emancipator influences of Lipp are very apparent.
