The ever-prolific Neorev continues his collaboration with Long Island rapper Marcuss with a collection of originals, remixes and instrumentals that builds on the sound established on the previous Make Your Body Sway EP.
“So Twisted,” a celebration of mind-expansion from Make Your Body Sway, opens, followed by an insightful attack on the current hip-hop scene voiced again by Marcuss. Then Neorev lets loose with “Shock Wave,” a collaboration with French industrialists Noise Generator that hearkens to the early days of Nitzer Ebb until the guitars come in and it becomes a dark, heavy, exciting dance track. “That’s Fresh” returns to classic Neorev cyberpunk, while “The Switch,” penned with It Was July, comes across as an updated Eurythmics, showing that Michael Matteo, the brain behind Neorev, understands a wide range of emotions and can produce accordingly. A series of “So Twisted” remixes follow, the most interesting being the trance-inducing, psychedelic version by Ethereal Prophet.
The downloaded version comes with instrumentals of the initial vocal tracks, allowing Matteo’s production to fully shine in the grimy neon.
Why Neorev remains an underground phenomena is beyond rational thought. Thankfully, it only inspires him to push boundaries and make great music. Here’s to the next direction in his fascinating journey.
