Dutch group, Birdt, have created an intriguing rarity on Place For One Day. The album consistently evokes hopeful and honest emotion through innovative use of traditional instruments and forthright lyricism.
The record’s finest monet, “Old the Rose,” sees each member lend their part to what becomes one singular harmonious entity. The track’s bittersweet laments are expertly respited by some heart wrenching (killer) arrangements. “Great Expectations,” quickly follows by placing the listener square in the eye of the storm of a traditional drone not heard since Fairport Convention.
Place For One Day is that rare release that pushes tradition a few measures forward, this is no small feat nor is it anything to take for granted.
