Instrumental South Central Pennsylvania quartet, Night, fully come into their own with a full-length that finally captures the textured atmospheres in their music.
After forging a path with 2012’s Offerings and a 2014 split with black doom alchemist, Layr, as well as some Bandcamp releases, Satellites fully depicts the painting that had been sketched for so long. Having expanded to include a live drummer, the exquisite Mark Bixler, the band journeys further into their atmospheric post-rock soundscapes, even becoming spacerock at times. The guitars of Bobby Yagodich and Zach Nace exude pure emotion, each song a template in mood achored by Matt Jackson’s solid bass. It’s like Hawkwind morphed with Mogwai in the Acid Mothers Temple universe.
While Night haven’t yet reached their peak, they’ve certainly reached interstellar heights. From here, they can only get better, so set the controls for the heart of the sun and wait for the next landing.
