Comprised of members of Mac DeMarco’s backing band, Montreal-via-Vancouver-based Walter TV finally see a proper release of their oddball first album posted on Bandcamp in 2012.
Far from DeMarco’s mediocre Lou Reed impressions, Appetite is frenetic and weird, a psychedelic garage pop opus for the glue-sniffing generation. Heavy reverb permeates the guitars and vocals, while the bass and drums keep a tight lock on the deceptively complex rhythms. By blending White Fang’s lo-fi irreverent charm with the psychotic attack of Paint Fumes, Walter TV delve into an entirely new crazy, where carnivorous bunnies frolic among the dandelions and puppys run from roving packs of purring pussycats. It’s a twisted, sordid celebration of honesty in home recording.
Apparently, 2015 will see further explorations into Walter TV’s world. May they retain their fun strangeness in future endeavors.
