Hidden Shoal is proud to announce the release of new single “Funeral for a King” by Melbourne, Australia-based band Summon the Birds, taken from their forthcoming second album, Blood Love.
For best results, Summon the Birds recommend listening to “Funeral for a King” in a heavily fortified castle keep, possibly in the eastern wilderness. Be sure you are well stocked with wine, bread, cheese, and Motown records because hark! Hear the walls tremble? Hear the women wail? Hear the men mutter their funeral rites? The barbarians are coming.
Summon the Birds flash out the shadows of the sky, spinning tales of fallen kings, dissected criminals, Arctic exploration, cloud riding, and London rain. The canvas weaving these disparate threads together is the ornate musical setting in which the song-stories become an unflinching and expanding whole. Imagine latter-day Talk Talk picking the locks to Spoon’ s basement as The Drones circle, restless, looking for the pink pill…
Summon the Birds’ second album Blood Love will see release on Hidden Shoal in late 2017. The album was recorded by producer and engineer Tim Johnston (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Dandy Warhols, *The Drones).
“Funeral for a King” will be available via Bandcamp, Spotify, iTunes, and other major online stores on September 18th, with a single launch gig on September 21st at Open Studio Northcote.
