If you’ve ever been a fan of Sigur Ros, but were hoping Jonsi would sing in English more often, or if you can imagine an otherwise potent dream mix of A-ha, GEMS, Travis, Dream Academy, and Cocteau Twins, you’ll enjoy the treat we bring you today from Britain’s Daniel Land. Formerly of the Modern Painters and also the Ulrich Schnauss -led project Engineers, Daniel Land has made his own mark on underground music, but this new solo release is definitely something to be treasured.

Today we present you the premiere for “The Beautiful Room Is Empty”, which is the final track of his new LP In Love with a Ghost. “I wrote the lyrics to this song lying on my partner’s bed one night while he was flying away to Greece,” explains Daniel Land. “I was nervous because there was a huge storm outside and his flight was due to take off at the same time and I was imagining the worst possible things. I tried to lighten it up a bit by writing some slightly self-deprecating lines. A fairly simple song but a good album closer I think.”

Undoubtedly his most complicated and textured record to date, this album follows albums Love Songs for The Chemical Generation and The Space Between Us by Daniel Land & The Modern Painters.

In the three years that followed that group’s disbanding, which also brought on a series of health problems (including a chronic inner-ear infection that left him partially deaf for over a year and also prone to bouts of dizziness), Daniel was considering leaving the music realm altogether. We’re glad to see he’s pulled through it because what he has delivered here is a sublime piece of dream-pop. Apart from today’s highlighted track, other faves from this album include “You & Me Against The Sky”, “Holes on the Dancefloor”, “New York Boogie-Woogie”, and “Everyone’s Got A Guy Garvey Story”.

Recorded at various locations including London, Manchester, Devon, California, and New York, this album features nearly twenty musicians, including members of Daniel Land & The Modern Painters, Andrew Saks (Sway / ASAKS), Gerard Hopes (Little Nova Sound), and members of Daniel’s new live band. The record involved the prolific ambient composer Brin Coleman, a.k.a. Bing Satellites, who was involved with the record from start to finish, playing multiple instruments, helping with production, and co-writing some of the music.

Daniel Land has been releasing dream-pop and ambient music for nearly a decade, having developed a unique blend of dreamgaze and confessional song writing and receiving accolades from the likes of NME, Drowned in Sound, and BBC’s Guy Garvey, Marc Radliffe, Tom Robinson, and Rob Da Bank. He has also collaborated with such artists as The Steals and Ask For Joy
