Today, Seattle psychedelic R&B crooners Richie Dagger’s Crime share their new video for “Sheep” from the forthcoming EP Tenderness set to be released June 13th via CTPAK Records

Tenderness is a retrospective glimpse at indulgent and grandiose pop music, from the more obscure “The Rest is Noise” by Jamie XX to Joe Jackson’s mega-hit “Steppin’ Out.”

Tenderness elegantly captures the superficial sheen of this classic style and then revitalizes it with unabashed deference and celebration.

Richie Dagger’s Crime is a project of Seattle by-way-of-Chicago transplant Richie Nelson that involves a breadth of R&B stylings ranging from acoustic soul to psychedelic funk and ambient electronics. Nelson’s classical training and unconventional production techniques markedly define the immersive, haunting, and genre-skipping experience he conjures. Nelsons’ band is a stunning and powerful assemblage of some of Seattle’s finest musicians including Eric Padget (Vince Mira, Devotchka, Corespondents), Chris Anderson (Gorillaz, Mos Def), Coreena, and more.

Tenderness is set to be released June 13th digitally, followed by the physical release on June 16th at LoFi Performance Gallery in Seattle with Afrocop, Real Don Music, and OC Notes providing support.

Nelson goes into the background info about the video, explaining, “The concept and music for this whole project was collaboration with Kjell Nelson, and various members of the local label Cabin Games. Kjell produced/engineered these songs and introduced me to a range of artists I would have never considered to regard. We initially started 5 or 6 additional covers, but these were the ones that made the cut. It was really a beautiful collaboration.”

The artist continues, John Theroux wrote and directed “Sheep” and it was shot in Seattle’s historic Jewel Box Theater at the Rendezvous. The general intention was to reflect some the symbolism in lyrics with modern consumption of popular culture. It has 3 acts in a theatrical format and attempts to tell a story by revealing the 3 separate participants in the theater –as referred to in the lyrics (lion, sheep, shepherd).”
