And the year-end album list begins. Every other outlet already has theirs up, so I wanted to start with #s 21-30, going in reverse order.
(30) Youngteam – Daydreamer (Northstar)
The title says it all.
(29) I Was Totally Destroying It – Preludes (Greyday)
Great, straight up rock album.
(28) Smith Westerns – Dye It Blonde (Fat Possum)
Cocky little bastards but they back it up on their sophomore record.
(27) Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks – Mirror Traffic (Matador)
The closest to Pavement as we’re likely to hear again.
(26) This Will Destroy You – Tunnel Blanket (Suicide Squeeze)
Soundtrack for the apocalypse and best post-rock album this year.
(25) Jane’s Addiction – The Great Escape Artist (Capitol)
A huge surprise. I liked this a lot more than I had expected to.
(24) Matt Bauer – The Jessamine County Book Of The Living (Crossbill)
Check my full review for deets.
(23) White Mystery – Blood & Venom (White Mystery)
(22) Brett Netson – Simple Work For The Dead (The New Black)
Full review here of Built To Spill guitarist’s solo effort.
(21) Obits – Moody, Standard And Poor (Sub Pop)
The year’s most Radio Birdman-like release and the best yet from Rick Froberg.
