David Musto: December 18, 2011

And the year-end album list begins. Every other outlet already has theirs up, so I wanted to start with #s 21-30, going in reverse order.

  1. (30) YoungteamDaydreamer (Northstar)

    The title says it all.

  2. (29) I Was Totally Destroying ItPreludes (Greyday)

    Great, straight up rock album.

  3. (28) Smith WesternsDye It Blonde (Fat Possum)

Cocky little bastards but they back it up on their sophomore record.

  4. (27) Stephen Malkmus & The JicksMirror Traffic (Matador)

The closest to Pavement as we’re likely to hear again.

  5. (26) This Will Destroy YouTunnel Blanket (Suicide Squeeze)

Soundtrack for the apocalypse and best post-rock album this year.

  6. (25) Jane’s AddictionThe Great Escape Artist (Capitol)

A huge surprise. I liked this a lot more than I had expected to.

  7. (24) Matt BauerThe Jessamine County Book Of The Living (Crossbill)

Check my full review for deets.

  8. (23) White MysteryBlood & Venom (White Mystery)

  9. (22) Brett NetsonSimple Work For The Dead (The New Black)

Full review here of Built To Spill guitarist’s solo effort.

  10. (21) ObitsMoody, Standard And Poor (Sub Pop)

The year’s most Radio Birdman-like release and the best yet from Rick Froberg.
