XTC: Videography II (1979-1980)
The UK’s class of ’77 graduated few more durable, adventurous or curious groups than XTC. For nigh-on 30 years the band survived, gradually shedding members while constantly evolving. Unlike many bands of their era, opinion remains divided about what constitutes XTC’s zenith. Perhaps the strongest nominee for peak XTC is the period that encompasses the albums Drums & Wires (1979), Black Sea (1980) and English Settlement (1982) where the band traded keyboardist Barry Andrews for second guitarist Dave Gregory AND kept hard-hitting drummer Terry Chambers in the fold.
