Full disclosure: I had a couple of the Psychedelic Furs records back in the day, but I hadn’t really given them much thought since. Friends were excited to go, so I picked up a ticket.
A few weeks before the show I did some research and found many positive reviews of their shows and that they’ve toured consistently since the band reformed. I was starting to look forward to the show.
I wasn’t disappointed. This is a polished, tight, professional touring band. More importantly, they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Especially Richard and Tim Butler. They may have performed these songs thousands of times, but there was nothing dull or rote about the show. The band connected to the audience and the crowd loved them. Perhaps best of all, although they were playing songs that were hits in the ’80s, there was nothing nostalgic about this show. The songs don’t sound at all dated and translate well live.
I guess this means that I’m a fan.
