R.I.P. Kim Biggs-Keil / "Rabid in the Kennel" to spin off as its own separate show on Breakthruradio.com / Leatherface new album and tour! Link to new song!

2 February 2010

R.I.P. Kim Biggs-Keil

The Big Takeover/Even Worse family is grieving the sudden loss of Kimberly Biggs-Keil, age 45, wife of Even Worse bassist Eric Keil (the Even Worse lineup that appears on our only album, You’ve Ruined Everything and the New York Thrash compilation), the unfortunate victim of a car crash January 12 that began in the opposite lane from Kim of a highway across a divider. Just really sad. Kim, along with Eric and their two terrific children Louisa and Travis, was our host when the group spent a week in greater Wilkes-Barre, PA, rehearsing for our 2002 CBGB reunion shows for the New York Thrash 20th anniversary, and she couldn’t have been sweeter to me/us and more delighted and supportive of our endeavor. And she was an admirable person, highly active in education (she was a founding member of the Bear Creek Community Charter School) and other issues in her community. There is a fitting eulogy for her here:

http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/timesleader/obituary.aspx?n=kimberly-biggs-keil&pid=138572343

and anyone who would like to contribute to her memorial scholarship fund can at

Kimberly Biggs-Keil Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1900 Bear Creek Boulevard, Bear Creek Township, PA 18702

I would have posted this a few weeks ago, but I’ve been a little bit in shock about it. And my heart goes out to Eric and Louisa and Travis and I wish them the best.

“Rabid in the Kennel” to spin off as its own separate show on Breakthruradio.com:

A week from tomorrow (Wednesday, February 10), My “Rabid in the Kennel” show is going to debut on breakthruradio.com as its own separate spinoff show. monthly for now, maybe weekly some day in the future.

The first guest is Paul Collins of the Nerves (of “Hanging on the Telephone” fame, that Blondie covered), the band that is featured in the current issue of Big Takeover #65, and of Paul Collins Beat . That’s eight days from now and i will keep you posted! Please listen in!

And if you have missed the first episodes of the show (which until now have been part of the regular “Big Takeover on BreakthruRadio.com” show), you can still hear them all at rabidinthekennel.com. Our previous sessions have been with The Posies , TV Smith of The Adverts , Joe Pernice , Justin Sullivan of New Model Army , Miranda Lee Richards , Lou Barlow , Sloan , and Astrid Williamson . And we have a ton more coming!

And scroll down to the bottom of this, and I will post my recent links and playlists to the regular “Big Takeover” show on the station I have done this year and the special 2009 wrap-up show from late December!

Leatherface new album and tour! Link to new song!

Holy cow is this good news.

Here’s a great link for the east coast tour news:

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2010/01/leatherface_-_n.html

(The video for “Springtime” live in Dublin in Aug. 2007 is pretty hot as well, if you want to see what they are like on stage these days!)

And the link for the new song “Never Say Goodbye” is here:

http://www.myspace.com/frankieostubbs

and it’s flat out fantastic! There’s a very cool piano version there of “My Heart is Home,” too. (Newcomers will also find eight other songs from their seven previous albums going back to 1989.)

More news: Leatherface singer Frankie N.W. Stubbs has kindly accepted my offer to do a “Rabid in the Kennel” session while in town in March, so I’m excited about that too!

Of course, I’ve interviewed him twice before for Big Takeover , for issue 45 in 1999 and issue 54 in 2004 (see back issues button to the left to order), so I’m sure we will get along famously!

New LP The Stormy Petrel is out feb. 23.
