Follow The Big Takeover
Now playing on Rabid In The Kennel, a particularly historic session with departing Brooklyn dreampop/shoegaze band The Depreciation Guild.
Sadly the group, which includes two members that are kept busy on tour in The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, are calling it quits after five years and two albums. But they fortunately granted our wish to record them one last time before they leave us. They are—well, were—led by singer/songwriter/guitarist Kurt Feldman, who is the Pains’ drummer, as well as second guitarist Christoph Hochheim, who is a touring member of the Pains as well, along with Christoph’s brother Anton on drums, and bassist Raphael Radna.
And certainly if they had to split up, they gave us a great album in 2010’s superb Spirit Youth to remember them by, released on New York’s venerable Kanine Records label, highlighted by the singles “Blue Lily” and “Dream About Me.” It was my #20 pick in the current issue #67 of Big Takeover, as it was one of the dreamiest dreampop albums for sure to come out of the U.S. of late, even given the explosion of modern bands looking back at the late ‘80s/early ‘90s English style.
Don’t miss this session, as, unless they (hopefully) reunite again someday, this is our last chance to hear them. Catch them while you can! Visit the Rabid In The Kennel web site for updates and to see videos from the session as they are made available.
