A truly blessed thing has occurred this week. After a dry spell of nearly 7 years, THE SISTERS OF MERCY have decided to grace America with their presence once more and play a one-off gig at the House of Blues in Las Vegas. I know that to many, ANDREW ELDRITCH and his ever-changing lineup are complete has-beens, relics of the post-punk era whose vitality is waning and whose name only conjures up the worst of g*th. After all, they haven’t released an album since the slick, metal-influenced Vision Thing in 1990, and Eldritch has repeatedly voiced his distaste for America and our role in world politics etc etc. But you know, I can’t sit here and pretend that I wasn’t so ecstatically happy that I nearly jumped out of my platforms when I saw this posted on their website. But that’s just me.
So, if all goes well, I will be on a plane to Vegas on the morning of February 16th, armed with my home made “I Love Doktor Avalanche” t-shirt, and ready to blog about the whole darn thing. Let’s hope there’s a full-on American tour in the future…
When the wheels are spinning around
and the ground is frozen through
and you’re driven like the snow,
Pure in heart
Driven together
And given away to the West...
Happy New Year and Carpe Noctem!
