This week's "Big Takeover on Breakthru Radio" show: new Engineers, Dead Horse One, Proper Ornaments, and GBV, old Moody Blues and Dr. John, etc.!

21 July 2014

Once again, for those who greatly enjoy our Big Takeover Magazine print issues and this site (I hope that means you!), you might enjoy my weekly radio show too (new show every Monday), as I play a ton of stuff that is covered in our pages and here as well, both old and new:

This week’s show Tafter a RIP tribute to Tommy Ramone (may he RIP; hard to believe all four original Ramones are no longer with us!!! Bummer! And how strange!): The Proper Ornaments (new), Dead Horse One, Cocoanut Groove, Slowness (new), Moody Blues, The Rifles, Kaleidescope (U.K.), Allah-Las, Math and Physics Club, Maximo Park, Guided By Voices (new), The Steinbecks, Shoes, The Ramones (RIP, again), Beverly (featuring Frankie Rose), The Outskirts, Roddy Frame (new), The Engineers (new), and a Dr. John classic. Why not tune in? What have you got to lose?

And for unusual older songs for you as ever to shake things up, check out the truly moody Moody Blues track from 1968, and the Dr. John classic cover of “Iko Iko” from 1972, both are songs I heard on Arizona radio last week, reminding me how much I love both of them, and I wanted to share them with you! And like the 1977 Ramones track I air this week, as well, the Shoes’ 1978 song is also a farewell for a different newly deceased drummer, their vintage-era stickman, Skip Meyer. Also RIP. Double bummer. We drummers are dropping like flies, sadly. Like a real life Spinal Tap problem. Lastly, the Outskirts’ track is a buried 1981 treasure, known these days, if at all, via Let’s Active’s 1984 cover version on Cypress.

Also, as I remind in this space every week (‘cause I think it’s important to reiterate), iif you want to hear any of my previous shows, you can go to my page on the site, and all 315 previous shows (and our several “Rabid Sessions show” can be heard at your leisure there as well!) Many hours of fine music, since we never repeat the same song twice!

Enjoy, ladies and true gents! and scalewags and dips as well.
