Formed in 2013, Amsterdam outfit Stage Republic prides itself on fusing a modern foundation with the distinctive hooks and production of “’80s superacts like U2, the early Simple Minds, Duran Duran, and David Bowie.” Their debut LP, 2014’s Firstage, was widely praised for its synthesis of “disco, pop, rock, dance, and country-folk”; subsequently, their penultimate single, “Big Blue River” (released earlier this year), effectively demonstrated how the band has grown over the last couple years.
Recently, Stage Republic launched another track, “I Got Your Back.” Brimming with shiny guitar strums, impassioned and earnest lead vocals, warm harmonies, and simple yet emotional lyrics, the song oozes the romantic, hopeful, and instantly catchy charm of late ‘80s/early ‘90s rock.
Likewise, the accompanying video (which you can check out below) provides celebratory, retro allure with its depictions of various people (from varying eras, including Buster Keaton, Groucho Marx, and Lucille Ball) dancing. Together, the music and visuals are sure to make you smile, as well as eagerly anticipate what Stage Republic does next.
