Visqueen live in the studio (and interviewed) and "Best of the New Breed, Vol. 1" now on Rabid In The Kennel!

Rachel Flotard of Visqueen
21 August 2010

Hi folks! A combination of our blowout Big Takeover 30th Anniversary Festival shows July 30 and 31, which consumed a good month of my time, followed a not very surprising illness on vacation which followed, has left me well behind on posting the news of our two most recent “Rabid in the Kennel” Sessions! Let me rectify that now.

“Rabid In The Kennel” appeared for the first time in a month in July on Bastille Day with a very special guest: the one and only Visqueen, playing a special, more stripped-down, drummer-less session for us in support of their awesome recent LP , A Message to Garcia , and then the members, including dashing, powerful-throated singer Rachel Flotard, sat for a long 35-minute chat, including lots of funny sexual innuendo from the three women guests to their male host, and otherwise.

Visit Breakthru Radio now to hear this exclusive interview, and this live, solo performance at The Kennel Studio in Brooklyn! And you can click on this link and listen to it any day, at any time, at your leisure! You won’t believe how powerful Visqueen is even playing in an “unplugged” format, and it sure forms a contrast to their more ballsy, full-band, knockout album and live versions!

Here’s the playlist.

More recently, we tried a special new wrinkle for our established format, by presenting all music and no chat with seven more up-and-coming, less established, but equally deserving new bands, called “Best of the New Breed, Vol 1.” This began airing just last week!

So if you want less conversation and more exclusive music, by bands that you might need a good introduction to, then this is the show for you. You can hear the following seven bands: New York’s own postpunks Thirdborder, our more shoegaze veterans The Lost Patrol and New York/Montreal/Boston’s Day Sleeper, the more electroclash stylings of Brooklyn’s Lady Magma and Living Days, and as a special treat, the all-the-way-from-the-Twin-Cites just-for-this-session The Chambermaids whose modern dreampop is a wonder to behold, filled with the passion such a long drive would add!

Again, visit Breakthru Radio now to hear these live-in-the-studio, killer performances at The Kennel Studio in Brooklyn!

And here’s that playlist for the more recent show.

Again, it’s all music, with just short introductions from me. All killer, no filler!

Links to all past Rabid In The Kennel Sessions are here, along with photos and videos of the sessions.

(Past guests include Leatherface, The Posies, TV Smith, Joe Pernice, Miranda Lee Richards, Justin Sullivan of New Model Army, Lou Barlow, Sloan, Astrid Williamson, Alina Simone, Doug Gillard of Guided By Voices, Gem, Cobra Verde, Death of Samantha etc., Adam Franklin of Swervedriver and Magnetic Morning, and Paul Collins of The Nerves and The Beat.)

And be sure to watch this space, or rabidinthekennel.com, for updates on when to tune in next time (the third Wednesday in September) when we present “The Best of the New Breed, Vol 2” with six more of these newer acts that we also want to showcase!

Visit the Radio section of this site for playlists and links to all past “Rabid In The Kennel” shows, as well as all of my weekly “Big Takeover on Breakthruradio.com” broadcasts.

Cheers!
