The name of this New Jersey combo may bring to mind some sort of electro-fied shoegazer madness, but that’s not even close to the case on Buzz-O-Rama. Instead principals Scott Dense and Little Ricky reach back to sounds made before psychedelia was even a twinkle in anyone’s eye. (Well, maybe a twinkle.) Like a couple of sixties teenagers who just discovered their cool uncle’s Chuck Berry records, Electraluxx doesn’t so much revive the original rock & roll sound as play it as if that’s all they know. Besides the snappy guitar work and clockwork drumming, the stylish songcraft of “Knock the Dust Off,” “My Mom” and “Too Cool For School” makes it clear these guys ain’t amateurs. Cool, catchy and apparently irony-free, Buzz-O-Rama sounds like the perfect soundtrack for that scene in A Charlie Brown Christmas where the kids ignore Charlie Brown’s directions and just boogie down – and that’s a compliment.
