Eifelian, the latest LP from ethereal duo Autumn’s Grey Solace, is nearly an hour of shimmering guitar arpeggios, undulating keyboard washes and indecipherable vocal coos. That may sound like damning with faint praise, but it’s not meant to be. The interplay of Erin Welton‘s angelic, often wordless vocals and multi-instrumentalist Scott Ferrell‘s hazy music creates a mysterious, but soothing mood, like listening to spirits sing you to sleep out of the corner of your eye. Tunes like “Devonian Serene,” “Holocene” and “Faint Young Sun” may seem hard to grasp in an overtly tactile manner, but the way the soundwaves wash over you prevents dissipation. Those who find ghostly wisps of shoegazing faerie dust appealing will likely find Eifelian similarly appealing. Fans of Projekt stalwarts Mira, *Love Spirals Downwards and Tearwave, not to mention the Cocteau Twins, will be enticed beyond measure.
