This set features two sides of Carole King’s career. Disc one’s eighteen tracks focus on King’s own success as a solo artist, encapsulated by four from her landmark 1971 album Tapestry – the locomotive “I Feel the Earth Move,” pensive “So Far Away,” sadder but wiser “It’s Too Late,” and her sweet version of “You’ve Got a Friend.” The latter song became most closely associated with friend and collaborator James Taylor’s #1 single version, released during that same year. The collection’s second disc spotlights more of King’s songwriting success for other artists. Girl groups and boy groups both scored with pop confections co-written with former husband and Brill Building partner Gerry Goffin. The Shirelles croon “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” The Chiffons celebrate “One Fine Day,” and The Monkees sing “Pleasant Valley Sunday.”
