CorMae’s lyrics are reminiscent of a furiously scribbled diary entry, delivered with an unhinged vocal style built on a snotty, punk-infused riot grrrl foundation. The group shines on slower, moodier tracks like Tired, which I hope they follow through on in future releases. CorMae maintains quicker tempos reminiscent of snotty garage rock, but they play tighter and more aggressively to update the sound. Production is strong with undertones of lo-fi, but the final mix brings every instrument to the front.
The group condemns the ‘modern world’ of social media within their opener, Time Deleter; as things progress, lyrics detail themes of struggles for resiliency, reaching a nadir of frustration on the record’s closing refrains of “I’m tired.” There’s a strong foundation for CorMae to build on, and as long as feckless officials attempt to blindly declare things are great, CorMae will be able to twist and spit back such hollow declarations with new vigor. Recently signed to DC-Jam Records, you can be sure the group is poised to move forward. Recommended.
