Sporting an amazing capacity to stir together hyper-distorted lo-rez guitar rock, psych garage and overtly happy “ooo-OOO” hooks, Cambridge’s DOOMSTAR! are one of the most genuine and exciting bands tearing shows up in the DIY scene right now. Their live show is an explosion of epiphanous rock that inspire crowds to completely lose it. The intense live energy of their shows shines through one hundred percent on Rainbow Bloodsucker.
Guitarist Spenser Gralla wields feedback like excalibur while the bass and drum shotgun of Jeff Johnson and Noah Bond respectively drive the party straight over the mountain. Epic burning-off-into-the-sunset type jams come at you relentlessly on this EP, loaded with hooks and psychedelic cheer. The lead track “Gimme Some” hits garage laced doo-wop upside the head with shinily delayed vocals and searing guitar, then every song builds in awesome, reaching a blissful plateau with the two chord singalong madness of “Lily Face” and the title track before drawing back the tempo just a bit for the dirgy and dirty bottom of “Sharron Mitchell”. This should be the album of your day, week and summer. Sure to inspire many “Who’s this playing?” moments when being rocked on your hi-fi. Make sure to catch the mighty DOOMSTAR! on tour this fall in August and September!
