Punk community stalwart and Strange Club Records founder Brian Hanover returns to the stage with a new Goth-infused group, False Flowers. Relying heavily on dark, atmospheric vocals amid Punk’s energetic hallmarks, False Flowers successfully utilizes punk’s energy but relegates it to a more supportive role, enabling a new pacing that does not sacrifice any urgency. Amid the usual lyrical themes of isolation and introspection, False Flowers does not fall into the singular dimension trappings of the genre; instead, the group’s pacing enables their debut to expand its sonic tones without alienating listeners.
