Imaad Wasif – The Voidist (Tee Pee)

Guitarist IMAAD WASIF has a solid resumé from the indie rock world, including leading the bands LOWERCASE and ALASKA and stints as a touring guitarist for the FOLK IMPLOSION and the YEAH YEAH YEAHS. For his third solo album The Voidist, the L.A.-based Wasif revisits the approaches of both his self-titled debut (acoustic acid folk) and the follow-up Strange Hexes (electric acid rock), uniting the two halves of his personality into one psychedelic whole. Whether it’s 12-string-driven folk songs like “Hand of the Imposter” and “Her Sorcery,” full-storm amplified workouts like “Priestess” or “Razorlike,” or tunes like “Return to You” and “Redeemer” that split the difference, Wasif’s work is marked by his deft melodies, tasteful six-string work and fragile, personable voice. There’s no void here – there’s too much talent that fills it.
