Comprised of Yorkshire, UK-based Matt Bower (The Revenant Sea, Wizards Tell Lies) and Louisiana’s April Larson, Isobel Ccircle~ deliver a debut so disturbing it should be the soundtrack to a horror film.
Immediately, the haunting music box/piano intro to “Switch” drags us into terrifying territory. Through the use of ambient drones, subtle statics and twisted electronics, Fluttercage unravels a series of demented soundscapes filled with supernatural dread. Falling somewhere between Trance (Mason Jones), Blood Box/Yen Pox and Rozz Williams‘ Premature Ejaculation, each track delves into unsettling atmospheres, where light is an anomaly and shadows run amok. These are the nightmares of robots, synaptic miscalculations in the AI, cyberpunk surges of total discomfort.
Why listen to such feel-bad music? Well, without darkness there is no light. By assaulting us with dread, Isobel Ccircle~ give us an appreciation for the daylight, where doors can be opened freely and corners are seen clearly. Step into a realm of fear just to remember the peace.
