Veteran New York rock & roller Kevin K teams with L.A. spitfire Texas Terri for eight songs of piss, vinegar and tattoos on Firestorm. Backed by K’s classic Les Paul Junior riffs and his French rhythm section, Terri’s leatherlunged (and –pantsed) exhortations sound more musical than usual, though her wildchild spirit is hardly tamed. Indeed, one of the record’s strengths is its ability to balance chaos and order – the music is tight and muscular, but still blasts with the proper dollop of rock & roll abandon. K’s no slouch as a writer, either – the mix of hooks, humor and attitude in “”Have a Good Day,” “In Berlin” and “Love Kills Love” holds up nicely to the slash-and-burn firepower. Nice version of Johnny Thunders‘ sneering “London Boys” as well.
