Tallahassee dreampop combo Mira hasn’t existed in several years, but in, celebration of the eleventh anniversary of its debut LP, guitarist Tom Parker assembled The Echo Lingers On, a compilation of non-album cuts. Most of the disk consists of rehearsals, early versions and outtakes, including a couple of unfinished tracks (such as the unformed but enticing “Untitled”) and a cover of the Misfits‘ “London Dungeon,” learned for a friend’s wedding. But the gems are the first four cuts, reclaimed from the band’s Something Ventured EP. On “Real,” “Creation,” “Even Now” and “Something Ventured,” Regina Sosinki‘s soaring voice entwines with Parker and Mark Davidson‘s guitars like long-separated lovers reunited. Those four cuts alone stand as models of the power and beauty of which the shoegazer style is capable. Longtime Mira fans will lap this work up, of course, but genre devotees will find plenty of love as well.
