I know very little about this band other than that they’re the new project of Patrick Clark, formerly of ’90s Jersey punk stalwarts The Degenerics and other bands as well. I also know that they’ve already put out two other 7“s, but this is my first time hearing them.
Sounding nothing like Clark’s former bands, this is instead surf-punk mixed with some psych and even new wave influences. The first song on side one (“Meet Me in Cape May”) even reminds me a little of The Clean and other New Zealand artists. The title track features vocals (first time on a Mirrors and Wires record) and the B-side has only one song (“Pharm of Love”). This is another instrumental that’s the closest to the Dick Dale or Agent Orange blueprint and will no doubt inspire some to scream “cowabunga”, but with a hint of Wipers influence to keep one slightly guessing.
All in all, this is a charming record that gets better with subsequent listens.
