My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult - Sinister Whisperz: The Wax Trax! Years 1987-1991 (Rustblade)

My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult Sinister Whisperz The Wax Trax! Years Rustblade
15 August 2011

Although I was never a huge fan of the industrial dance thing, I could appreciate it for its sheer volume and energy. It could also be said that every band in that genre was truly unique, i.e., one could discern the difference between Nitzer Ebb, Front 242 and Ministry as they all had their own individual sounds.

Prior to this “best of…” remix compilation, I’d only heard a handful of songs from My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult, but hearing this, I now understand why their fans were so, er, cultish. These songs are downright sleazy blasts of orgiastic frenzy packed with B-movie samples, grinding rhythms and blasphemous lyrics. Lots of fun in a bad ’70s exploitation movie way, it’s a good album to listen to on a train because it’s reminiscent of the opening credits of the Lamberto Bava/Dario Argento film Demons, with the loud electronic music over a subway ride, even though that was an ’80s movie but you get my point.

Standouts include “And This Is What the Devil Does,” “The Days of Swine and Roses” (with its twisted refrain of “Christian zombie vampire/I am the father – the father of nothing!”), “Leathersex” and the previously unreleased new track, “Satana Rising.” If you’re into movies like The Thrill Killers or Blood Orgy of the She-Devils and you weren’t previously hip to MLWTTKK, pick this album up and become a konvert. It’s certainly safer than Jim Jones or Charles Manson.
