Nubians , a new gutter punk trio sharing members with local MTL wild men Thee Nodes put out this little slab of awesome as a self-titled cassette earlier this year. Through 7 shit-fidelity tunes that are like rusty knives stabbing into a murky nightmare, the ripped quality really hangs well on some bad-ass riffmanship and song writing. Dual guitars, drums and no bass do epic battle through throwback Dirtbombs guitar and stepped on Stooges hypnotic riffs. There are even moments like the end of “Eagles” that bring to mind early Sun City Girls or early Touch & Go releases.
A comfortable punch in the face that reeks of basement tours and beer, Nubians , though sloppy and no-fi, can’t hide the fact that there are some capable-ass musicians behind the murk, ready to party and make plenty more gratifying and edge-kicking punk tapes.
