Roedelius Schneider - Tiden (Bueau B)

For Hans-Joachim Roedelius and Stefan Schneider’s second collaboration, the duo eschews the confines of the comparisons brought on by their previous effort, Stunden, to create something entirely different: a form of digital classical music for the technological age. Roedelius’ grand piano no longer drones in Erik Satie land, but instead dances around Scheider’s electronics in phrases that are part jazz, part Germanic folk. The eleven short compositions are strikingly dissimilar, displaying a conscious effort among the musicians to explore different textures, moods and arrangements, which fluctuate between frenetic pulsing vibrancy to laid-back shuffles and even somber tones.
