Shark Pants perfectly embody the new wave of hipster garage/trash punk that’s been growing over the past few years, i.e., the songs aren’t very memorable although there seems to be an interesting idea that just doesn’t click and the recording is completely flat, giving the band no power whatsoever.
Quite honestly, this entire EP sounds like a Bad Company LP being played at 45 rpm, and since I’ve never been much of a fan of Bad Company, I’m not much of a fan of this record.
Perhaps the most interesting moment is the b-side’s opener, “Past and Future,” which seems to be attempting some sort of odd time signature, but the production is so tinny, it just comes off as sloppy.
I think I’ll put on the new P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. 7” to clear out my stereo and my ears. That’s real garage rock, not a cheap hipster imitation.
