Philly’s sunny sweetheart Shorty Boy-Boy drops some grit into his pop machine with an auspicious single, a debut from the maverick party animal culture explosion that is BITBY (Bands In The Backyard). “Candy Man” rocks some rural flava, hard edged acoustic riffs over some Aerosmith -ain drumming floating some raw and raggedy guitar shredding over top. Snappy and wry the vocals are loose and infectious. This tune’s got swagga and steam, I likey.
Flip to the backed/with and “Smoking Tea” ‘s undisguised dope references starts with a zithery flourish and sitcom samples. The PSA-jam is as infectious and unabashed as the A side, complete with cowbell and glammy, harmonized guitar leads. Tongue in cheek Bowie references makes things irreverent and fun over the hooks that end on a “T.H.C.”. Stoner glam-pop? Whatever, it’s fun as hell and you should covet my actual 7”, this puppy is limited to 200 copies!
