The Netherlands’ Sungrazer hands out sweet slabs of psychedelic heavy rock like pieces of warm chocolate – thick, almost sensual, but with enough air between the molecules to keep the sound from becoming oppressive. A lot of that air comes for the trio’s surprisingly lush vocal harmonies, which both contrast and compliment the acid-washed grunge of the guitars. Melody wields the biggest stick, however – the occasional free-range feedback concertos like “Intermezzo” pale beside the mightier, more tuneful exercises like “Zero Zero” and “Mountain Dusk.” Sungrazer breaks little new ground in the field of psilocybin-drenched stoner rock, but for fans of the style it’s perfectly satisfying.
