Around the time of their first record, I saw the
BLACK HALOS open a show during SXSW and wondered why the crowd was so excited about their second-rate
DEAD BOYS imitation when everybody still had
Young, Loud & Snotty at home. But the Vancouver quintet matured fast, upping the glam quotient, growing a passel of hard rock hooks, crafting clever lyrics and consistently getting better.
We Are Not Alone, the band’s fourth album, brings it all home. The album’s snarling, sexy attack is a lean, mean mélange of gritty 70s punk, aggressive garage rock and wide-eyed sleaze, boiling down the combo’s finer points into one beastly package. Whether you bang your head, shout along or wail away on your air guitar,
We Are Not Alone has your vice covered.
